So
what about when you aren't looking for something spontaneous? Sometimes
we don't always want to struggle for the spontaneous; just taking wild
shots in the dark hoping for something amazing. How can we script our
shots to get what we are looking for? Several people pointed out from
my last post
that the Afghan Girl was more posed than spontaneous. Good eye. You are
right. While the look in her eyes spoke volumes and couldn't have been
there for long, still this girl was just sitting there waiting for the
photographer to take her picture. He may have taken 20 or 30 shots of
her before he got this famous image. Just as placing your subject in a place with
good lighting is always a first when posing your subjects, so is getting them
comfortable.

Great tips! I enjoyed reading them. I have been enjoying your site and your photos. I dabble in photography and the more I learn the better. Thanks for sharing!!
Ohh, I forgot - I was going to ask if you had any great tips on taking pictures of babies. I want to do a photo shoot with my new nephew but I feel limited as what I can do. Would love your feedback....
@rugbana - Babies are so fun! To get started I picked up some remnant white fur at the fabric store and one in black too. On my last baby shoot I took the little guy and his mama out to the back yard and set my picnic table up in a nice shady area under some trees, spread out several thick blankets on the table and then my fur. I brought along my stiff white poster board and had the mother hold it over top of the table while she sat right by the baby (to keep him from falling off or anything). The board kept the light from being so harsh and the splotches of light filtering through the trees from messing up my pictures. If you go back a few posts you can see his pictures. We only spent about 30 minutes on the pictures and then gave him a break. We took a few more about half an hour later. The mom was just thrilled with how they turned out!
Good luck! Can't wait to hear how it goes!
